Our plants

The most important element of a Botanical Garden are the plants kept in it. Our garden harbours more than 5.000 different plant species from all over the planet. Central are plants that are used by humans and their wild relatives that are used as genetic resources. Each of our plant can be assigned using an individual identity code. Our resources are not only systematically determined, but are also investigated by means of molecular markers and microscopical methods. The quality of this collection can compete even with large Botanical Gardens.

Our plant portraits present some of these plants. To give you orientation, these portraits are ordered either by the scientific (Latin) name or by the German common names.

You have noticed that a plant is incorrectly labelled - tell us.
